If there’s one issue that has got the left and the deep state media to hate Trump more than any other thing — it is this: Trump does not believe that we as a nation should be beholden, subservient, or deferential to NATO in the slightest.
The reason for this is that the original purpose of NATO is to form a global resistance to tyranny emanating from the former Soviet Union. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization exists for that reason alone — to form an international military alliance to pose as opposition to any transnational threat from the country now known only as Russia.
Over the years, NATO has devolved into an international arms broker based on fear and legalistic monopoly. Any nation that is a member state of NATO is obligated to buy arms through NATO. This situation can only be perpetuated under the notion that Russia has plans for global dominance and must be kept in check.
Trump has pushed back against this mode of thinking in two ways. First, he has said that he would prefer to have friendly relations with Russia and Vladimir Putin. Second, he has expressed a disinterest in playing any role as defined by NATO rather than by our own best interests.
This is why he is smeared as a Russian asset. This is why he is resisted at every juncture. The toadies you hear from — like Don Lemonhead — are simply ideological subverts.
