Trump is Ruining the Left’s Imagined Struggle

For the progressive left, victimhood is a very powerful currency. Those who are able to claim a victim status receive special rights and privileges while the social justice warriors who fight against these supposed injustices are lauded as heroes.

The United States in 2019, however, is not a place running rampant with injustice. With important battles such as the civil rights movement and women’s suffrage having been won decades ago, those on the left whose lives revolve around fighting “the man” are left searching for new causes to take up. From the debunked myth of the gender pay gap to the entirely baseless idea of institutional oppression, these new causes that the left has taken up are trivial at best and divisive at worst.

President Trump isn’t making it any easier on these leftist “rebels without a cause”, either. While most on the left genuinely believed that the world would come to end under President Trump, the United States and its people have so far prospered under the Trump administration. This complete lack of struggle is ruining the leftist idea that the United States is a place of injustice and hardship, and it is forcing them to invent new, increasingly absurd injustices and hardships as they go along.
