Ben Shapiro: Is Nationalism Always Bigotry?
The left has this annoying habit of turning everything and everyone they don’t like into bigots and hate crimes and hate speech and phobias and the like — in the public perception at least — not in reality. This is especially vexing when it comes to biology.
Every evolutionary biologist out there has to watch his mouth lest he should let it slip that rape could be a biologically viable means of reproduction. The left would mistake such a statement as an ought statement, rather than an is statement.
This is a major problem with the left. They mistake ‘is’ statements for ‘ought’ statements. If you read that sentence to a left-wing ideologue, he would probably hear it as saying; “They should mistake ‘is’ statements for ‘ought’ statements.” This would be very confusing to our liberal friends. Kind of makes you feel sorry for them, doesn’t it?
This also works with terms of political art, such as “Nation State.” If we said that a nation state is ideal an a way for large communities around the globe to organize themselves, what a leftist hears is that a nation state should be an ideal as a way for large communities around the globe to organize themselves.
This sounds to them like social engineering- and because they only think in terms of race, they assume you’re looking to wipe out some phenotypes. They start thinking about gas chambers and plantations and things of that manner.
Here’s Ben Shapiro and Jonah Goldberg to help the left get its head on straight about nationalism.
