Are We Witnessing the Fall of Western Civilization?

Every generation, the older people say about the culture of the younger people that their music is vapid, their art is violent, and their morals are lacking.

We’ve been hearing this for so long that it just sounds like the ravings of old men. But what if it hasn’t always been this way? What if teens holding their parents in contempt is not the way it has always been? What if it is the product of social engineering?

We know that many other cultures are more family oriented than ours. We know that our culture has not always been so dismissive about the family unit as it is now. We also know that the American black community was intensely family oriented, religious, and self reliant back in the early 1900s.

So what happened? Let’s go back farther. The same thing that happened to Rome is happening to us. Self reliance is undervalued. The roles of men and women are blurred. Reverence for the male virtues is twisted into contempt for men and reverence for the female virtues is transformed into worship of the she-male ideal.

The same thing happened to Rome just as the barbarians were being admitted into the city — just as the farmers became an inner-city consumer class.

Our culture is unwell, and it might not recover. If history is the blueprint for our future, it won’t.
