Feminist Remake of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Flops at the Box Office

Consider this for a second: what exactly was it about the original rendition of Charlie’s Angels that wasn’t feminist, at least in the classical sense? The franchise already got a reboot in the early 2000s, once again featuring thin, feminine women with the unexplained ability to knock around 200-plus pound men like sandbox toys.

We were understanding that the entire point of modern feminism was to make women feel empowered. What we didn’t understand until after reading the reviews for Hollywood’s latest failed cash grab is what exactly constitutes empowerment.

The talent involved with 2019’s remake of Charlie’s Angels is lamenting the fact that almost no one is going to see this movie. And, why would they? What does this new film do for viewers that the plethora of superhero films don’t already do? The film’s creators are, predictably, blaming sexism for the failure, alleging that men don’t like to watch action films with strong female leads.

Apparently, these people have never heard of The Terminator, Alien, Underworld, or the last Charlie’s Angels remake that came out a decade and a half ago.
