For political junkies, Japan is a fascinating country to study. The nation was hit with two nuclear weapons, and arose from the ashes to become a global economic powerhouse. Its culture is celebrated just about everywhere it’s been exposed — especially in the United States.
Just take a look at some of the technology and media content young Americans enjoy today — much of it wouldn’t exist without Japan. Entire streaming services are dedicated to Japanese cartoons (known locally as “anime”), and cars made either in the country or by its larger-than-life franchises are considered to be among the most reliable on Earth.
An island country smaller than the state of California has both culturally and economically left its mark all around the world. And the best part is that the Japanese people will never apologize for it.
While the West is obsessed with bringing cultures together and writing off anything that even smells like nationalism in politics, the Japanese are happy to promote and celebrate everything that makes them unique. Through western eyes, the country is a mono-culture, and there’s no trace of any “social justice warriors” anywhere.
