Why the Left’s Identity Politics is Unsustainable
The oppression Olympics that is leftist politics isn’t new, but it did adopt a new strategy. And while it seems to be working in the short-term, all evidence points to the political left falling apart as a result.
Decades ago, before the fall of the Soviet Union, radical leftists were primarily concerned with what was called “economic justice” — essentially the realization of the ideals espoused by Karl Marx almost a century prior. The goal was the destruction of the capitalist class, and the liberation of the workers they oppressed by giving them jobs in their factories.
The fall of the Soviet Union, and the subsequent collapse of its communist proxy states all over the world, marked a notable turn in strategy for the hard left. They no longer had any “success story” to point to — ignoring the fact that the USSR’s entire existence was characterized by economic shortcomings. This is when the focus shifted to social justice. Now, leftists have replaced class with racial identity, and capitalists with the evil white man that oppresses people of color simply by existing.
At the end of the day, the end result really isn’t that different. Instead of unifying marginalized groups, leftist intellectuals have divided them. Black Pigeon Speaks breaks this all down in the video below.
