Trump Considering Using Military Budget to Fund the Border Wall

After Congress passed an omnibus bill outlining the federal budget and how it will be appropriated, Democrats were left feeling as if they had dealt a major blow to President Trump and his goal to build a border wall.

The bill did appropriate money for the border wall, but only in the amount of $1.6 billion, which falls well short of funding the type of wall Trump wants to build. However, the celebration among those who oppose Trump and the border wall didn’t last long. In a move that can only be described as political genius, the president quickly figured out a way to fund the wall in spite of only having $1.6 billion appropriated for it.

Shortly after the omnibus bill passed, Trump declared that protecting the border was a matter of national security, and therefore the border wall could be funded using a portion of the military budget. Since a big increase in military spending was one of the main things the president fought for in the bill, there is more than enough funds in the military budget for Trump to build the wall and strengthen the military at the same time.
