The Anti-Gun School Walkout — A Media Hoax?
There are few things in American politics quite as powerful as a national, grassroots movement. So much so that, sometimes, groups pushing an ideology like to manufacture a grassroots movement where there really isn’t one in order to leverage its effect.
Such was the case with the ‘#NationalSchoolWalkout,’ where students all over the country cut class supposedly in support of gun control.
This event was painted by the mainstream media as being massive, student-led, and driven by the passion of the students in favor of gun control. The reality is, however, that none of these things are an accurate description of what actually happened.
From start to finish, the walkout was led and funded by liberal mega-donors and gun control organizations. Once the structure for the walkout was in place, the media fanned the flames, encouraging students all over the country to walk out of school and spinning the narrative on what the walkout really was.
Interviews with the students leaving school, however, show that the vast majority of them were not nearly as passionate about gun control as the media portrayed. In what comes as a surprise to no one, when given the choice between staying in the classroom and going outside with all their friends for a little while, most students are going to choose the latter.
