We learned this lesson back in 2014 around the time when the culture war got into full swing; it is to never apologize to a leftist mob. You never admit guilt to these people, never back down. You never, ever give them an inch of ground.
But, why? Because they are not acting in good faith. When a gang of so-called liberals, whether online or in real life, comes after you for some imagined offense, they are not looking to correct your behavior, set you straight, and bring you into the light. They are looking to destroy your reputation, get you fired from your job, and publicly shame you.
They want to pose as noble culture warriors, and they are trying to notch a victory against the Quixotic windmill monsters of their fevered imaginations. They are the lose-brained victims of helicopter parent culture and politically correct indoctrination in America’s public schools.
They are babies in adult bodies. They are the most over-privileged people on Earth. They are mentally ill and they have found an easy way to shame and blame for maximum attention and maximum effect. Social media.
