Mark Steyn Explains Why No One Wants to Go to Haiti

Mark Steyn is an ex-patriot Canadian with a British accent. His writings, speeches, and punditry on Fox News and elsewhere are tinged with reality, sarcasm, and irreverent humor. From time to time he subs for Rush Limbaugh, referring to himself as “your undocumented host.”

The video below is Steyn’s take during an interview with Tucker Carlson on why President Donald Trump’s reference to “sh-thole” countries isn’t exactly far off. Haiti in particular has come into focus.

The point here is that, once again, President Trump says what normal, non-political people really think. Yes, the president’s alleged comments were heartless and crude (provided they were even said), but the question remains: why shouldn’t the United States restrict immigrants from societies that are dysfunctional?

Haiti, one of the poorest, most badly governed as well as a basket case of a nation tops the dysfunctional list.

Steyn also points out the contrast between U.S. and China when it comes to immigration policy. China, unlike the U.S., has completely closed borders. Also, China prefers to promote its own national interests, and those interests do not include assimilating immigrants from countries like Haiti.
