Like it or Not, the European Union is Falling Apart
European Union member states recently held their parliamentary elections, and the results were very grim for those who want the trade bloc to continue operating the way it has been.
In the United Kingdom, the most successful party by far was the Brexit Party — a coalition of anti-EU members led by right-wing icon Nigel Farage. As the name implies, the party has one goal and one goal only — for the 2016 referendum to be realized.
It wasn’t just the UK that is sending anti-EU MEPs to Brussels. In Italy, the right-wing and Euroskeptic League Party staged a similar upset, with counterparts in Britain and even the normally pro-EU Germany doing the same.
If there’s anything to take away form this, it’s that the biggest EU member states at the very least want a change from the way the pan-continental super state has been operating. Some lawmakers ran with the sole mission of taking their country out of the EU entirely.
This begs the question — has the EU ever worked in any capacity? Here’s Andrew Klavan with his answer.
