Chevy Chase on SNL: “Worst Humor in the World”

Saturday Night Live used to be a rebellious, edgy, unpredictable and uproarious romp straight from the imaginations of some of the nation’s most talented comedians and comedic actors.

In the old days, the show never took itself seriously. If it took anything seriously, it was doing whatever it took to make fans laugh. In the old days, laughs were number one.

Sure, there has always been a left-wing bias in the writing and the performances. It’s almost a given that actors are going to be left wing more often than not. That’s not a problem. We don’t need to agree on everything in order to have a high functioning society. But that kind of tolerance has gone the way of the dodo bird on SNL as it has in just about every left-leaning institution in this country.

Just like the rest of late night comedy, SNL has turned in its artistic integrity for full-on social justice warrior status. The show has been on the decline for at least 15 years now, and that’s normal. Nothing lasts forever. But with the nomination of Trump, the show took the poison pill of obsession with political ideology.

These days, it’s not about comedy anymore. It’s about deriding Trump and Trump supporters above all else.

Chevy Chase, a top-notch SNL alumni, was always a liberal. He admits using the show to push an agenda in the 70s and 80s. Even he thinks the show has committed comedic suicide.

Here’s Mark Dice with more.
