Ben Shapiro Reacts to College Students Needing ‘Counseling’

“Students sponsor a conservative speaker on campus again!” Laura Ingraham applauds as UCONN permits the Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro to speak on its Storrs, Connecticut campus.

Shapiro acknowledged that he did not have a lot of disruption during his speech; campus security and law enforcement did their jobs well. He added, however, that the campus did restrict access to his event. Attendance was limited to 500(they could have been given a larger space), with another 600-700 people – ‘the taxpaying public’- outside who were turned away from the door.

“Security is the new way for censorship to take place,” Shapiro said, adding that this is not specific to him but happens to conservative speakers all round the country — in the name of safety, of course. Ingraham quoted a memo offering counseling from Joelle Murchison, chief diversity officer at UCONN

“We understand that even the thought of an individual… like Ben Shapiro coming to campus…can be cause for concern…and even hurtful,” it said.

Shapiro found the reference to him amusing.

“Beneath this innocuous exterior beats the heart of a monster,” he laughed. “If you need to seek mental health counseling to hear a dissenting point of view, you probably need mental health counseling for other issues you have as well.”
