There’s something that needs to be said about Star Wars, and it’s not something you’re likely to hear from anyone regardless of their opinion about the films to come out after the prequels. And it’s this — Star Wars is for children.

Star Wars is directed at a non-age-of-majority audience. It is an adventure story inspired by the Flash Gordon comics of George Lucas’ youth. When the first Star Wars film hit theaters in the 1970s, it represented a number of breakthroughs in the realm of special effects. After decades of movies set in space, it was what fans of the genre knew it could be and always hoped it would become.

The story of the first film, “A New Hope,” was exceedingly simplistic. It was a basic set up for a young hero figure to set out on a transformative mission of martial conquest. That’s not to say that it lacks artistic merit, it does not. It’s a very good film. All of the films of the original trilogy are remarkable culturally, technically, and stylistically. But they are, and always will be children’s stories.

The story of Darth Vader is a warning against transhumanism, but that’s another topic.

Now, we have a whole slew of “Star Wars” movies aimed at being woke and appealing to adults who never fully put on their big kid pants. It’s an infantilizing, and nihilistic swipe at everything the original series was meant to be; fun, innovative, imaginative, and above all… for children.
