Public Opinion on Impeachment is Shifting

Leading up to the impeachment hearings, the mainstream media was all too happy to celebrate the fact that numerous national polls were showing a growing swell of support for impeaching President Donald Trump. Now that the impeachment hearings are underway, though, public opinion is starting to shift.

As almost anyone could have predicted, Democrats have thus far failed to provide a single shred of evidence that President Trump committed a crime or abused his power in any way during his conversation with the Ukrainian president. The impeachment hearings have been little more than a political sideshow, and, more and more, the American people are no longer buying what the Democratic Party is selling.

This is especially significant given the fact that the entire point of the impeachment process isn’t to actually remove Trump from office – a Republican majority Senate just about ensures that isn’t going to happen – but rather to weaken Trump’s chances of winning the 2020 election.

If the impeachment hearings continue to be exposed as nothing more than a political hit job, though, the Democratic Party’s gamble that moving forward with impeachment would help their 2020 aspirations could easily end up backfiring.
