Stefan Molyneux Explains the Evolution of the Liberal Snowflake

Is the modern idea of the whiny liberal snowflake a modern phenomenon? When and how did this caricature of left-wing politics come into being? Popular right-wing podcaster Stefan Molyneux attempts to answer both of these questions in his latest “daily argument” upload.

Never one to stray away from difficult questions, Molyneux targets both the modern education system and backseat parenting in his philosophical breakdown. Increased dependence on government schools, he says, combined with the tendency of many parents to rely on daycares, has made many young people simply too sensitive to handle the even the premise of disagreement.

In contemporary terms, “snowflake” refers to the modern college student who might feel that stating a massively disrupting (and sometimes violent) protest is an appropriate response to having a conservative speaker visit his or her campus. This knee-jerk reaction, Molyneux says, stems from a deep-seated scorn which likely began in early childhood.

Stefan Molyneux, who hosts the popular podcast Freedomain Radio, is a self-described philosopher and author. His early works are considered particularly influential on the modern libertarian movement.
