Cory Booker’s Campaign is Basically Over

The 2020 Democratic field started out as one of the largest field of candidates that the Democratic Party has seen in recent memory. Little by little, though, this field has been whittled down. Now, it looks like Sen. Corey Booker may be the next Democratic candidate give up his pipe dream of becoming president.

According to a memo sent out to Booker’s campaign staffers, Sen. Booker must raise nearly $2 million over the next ten days to stay in the race. Per the memo, “Without a fundraising surge to close out this quarter, we do not see a legitimate long-term path forward. The next 10 days will determine whether Cory Booker can stay in this race.”

Given that Booker’s campaign has only managed to raise a little over $12 million since Booker announced his intention to run for president, raising $2 million more over the next ten days is a pretty big ask.

Even if Booker somehow manages to raise this money, though, the writing is already on the wall. Booker’s poor polling numbers haven’t ever really got better, and throwing more money at the problem isn’t likely to change anything.
