One of the left’s favorite arguments when bashing the United States is the argument that the country is built on stolen land, and those that live there have no more right to that land than an illegal immigrant family or anyone else in the world.
According to those who subscribe to this way of thinking, the fact that we took the country away from Native Americans eliminates any claim to ownership that current Americans have over the landmass on which they live.
However, history is written by conquest, and even the Native Americans who lived in what is now the United States before European settlers arrived acquired their lands through war and theft. Trying to trace back the ownership of the United States based on who was actually here first and who claimed the land without taking it from someone else is simply an exercise in futility.
Today, the United States belongs to us – the American people – no matter what race or creed those American people may be. Any argument that those on the left make about Americans having no right to this land simply does not hold up when viewed through the lens of history and all of the conquests which that history contains.
