The polarized ideological divide between Democrats and Republicans fully revealed itself when Democrats in Congress opted to shut down the government over President Donald Trump’s plan to build a wall along the southern border.
Republicans in the White House and Congress used the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals as leverage to swing Democratic support.
President Trump made his bottom line clear, “If there is no border wall, there is no DACA”.
In a tweet late Tuesday night, President Trump wrote:
“Cryin’ Chuck Schumer fully understands, especially after his humiliating defeat, that if there is no Wall, there is no DACA,”. “We must have safety and security, together with a strong Military, for our great people!”
The border wall is a must have for President Trump, and any deal that contains protection for the dreamers must also contain funding for the border wall between the United States and Mexico for President Trump to sign off on the legislation.
The border wall is Trump’s signature campaign promise, as national security is very important to the President of the United States. He continues to rally support for the border wall in an effort to keep out illegal immigrants, crime and drugs.
Whether protection for dreamers will be part of a negotiation or not will be witnessed in the coming weeks, as the governments moves towards the early February deadline for a potential second government shutdown this year.
