Trey Gowdy Scorches James Comey

In his opening statements at the Congressional hearing on the IG report, House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy didn’t hold back his criticisms of the disgraced former FBI director James Comey.

Gowdy dived right into James Comey’s many missteps concerning his handling of the Clinton email investigation, starting by pointing out Comey’s decision to hold a press conference and taking the decision of whether or not to press charges against Clinton out of the hands of the prosecutors. It was this action that gave Comey almost unilateral power to decide whether or not Clinton should be charged – a power he used to recommend charges not be brought against her in spite of the immense evidence that she knew what she was doing was illegal.

Gowdy then goes on to discuss how James Comey drafted a letter of exoneration for Clinton before key witnesses in the investigation were even interviewed, Comey’s refusal to spur the appointment of a special counsel in the investigation in spite of the fact that he claimed to have lost faith in the objectivity of the attorney general Loretta Lynch, and Comey’s pattern of biased and partisan behavior throughout both the investigations into Trump and Clinton during the 2016 campaign.

All told, Gowdy’s opening statements at the hearing amounted to a thorough verbal beatdown of James Comey and his entirely unprofessional behavior. To see Trey Gowdy’s full remarks at the hearing, be sure to check out the video below.
