We should make one small edit to this headline: the United Nations is running out of America’s money — and that’s exactly the problem.
With 193 members in total, the United States pays at least a fifth of all the UN’s expenses. These cover everything from peacekeeping operations, foreign aid to underdeveloped nations, and a myriad of other projects that the rest of the members just can’t seem to cough up the cash for.
We’re not at all surprised to learn that the UN is having some budget problems. The organization will fund just about anything to promote its own self-image. Most of these don’t really amount to anything, but for some reason the organization is insanely expensive.
The UN’s budget problems come at a time when President Donald Trump is finally asking the would-be super government to start actually paying some of its own bills. As the president says, member states including the other four permanent members of the Security Council (the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and China), are frequently late on their bills.
As you can see, propping up the UN — which includes dictators that despise everything the U.S. and the rest of the western world stand for — doesn’t seem to mesh well with an America First agenda.
