Ted Cruz: Why Term Limits Are SO Important
In 2019, the progressive left and the conservative right don’t agree on much. One area where these two groups do tend to find some agreement, though, is the discussion of term limits. In this case, both progressives and conservatives alike are right when they say that term limits are important.
While it is true that career politicians who are elected time and time again to the same office are fairly elected each time they run, these lifelong politicians have an unfair advantage over the opposition. Their money combined with their name recognition ensures that they are able to stay in office as long as they want. This, of course, was never the design of our government.
Given that term limits is something that enjoys bipartisan support, it would seem as if this is an issue that Democrats and Republicans could easily work together on. However, the career politicians on both sides of the aisle are very much against the idea of term limits for obvious reasons.
Still, support for term limits is growing, thanks in large part to the growing popularity of the progressive left. Progressives certainly don’t get much right these days, but their push for term limits is warranted.
