New York Socialist Can’t Even Take a Joke
Those on the left are most often quick to defend comedy no matter how far it is taken, which makes sense given that most comedians are far-left liberals attacking conservatives in their routines. However, in the rare instances when the tables are turned, the left-wing powers-that-be don’t find it very funny.
Recently, CRTV published a satire “interview” with socialist congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The video was put together using clips from Cortez’s PBS interview and edited in such a way as to make for a humorous exchange that poked fun at Cortez’s lack of experience. To anyone with any degree of intelligence, it was obvious from the start that the video was satire and that it was never intended to be portrayed as a real interview.
Nevertheless, left-wing media outlets ranging from Vox to the Washington Post expressed outrage over the video, calling it fake news and insinuating that CRTV had tried to pass it off as a real interview. In a work of detective brilliance, one journalist even outlined his evidence that the interview was put together using PBS clips rather than being a real interview. This led to CRTV editing the description of the video to note that is was, in fact, satire in order to appease those who couldn’t tell the difference.
While it would seem that those on the left cannot recognize humor and satire when they see it, a much more likely explanation is that they simply don’t like when humor and satire are used against them.
