Lauren Southern on How Technology May Threaten Free Speech

Conservative commentator Lauren Southern says the very websites she uses to share her content may one day be used to silence political dissent.

In an eerie video posted to YouTube this week, Southern paints a bleak picture of the future where web-based technology is used to facilitate nearly every interaction, transaction, and communication. In this dystopian future, Southern warns your free speech may soon be threatened in the safety of your own home.

A scenario like this may seem pretty outlandish, but Southern already has personal experience with being censored on the web. The commentator famously landed herself in a feud with crowdfunding service Patreon after her account was removed without explanation. She has since began using more independent services to supplement her income.

On the surface, it seems like technology is great for bringing people together and making communication easier. However, as evidenced by Facebook’s censoring of conservative websites and other similar developments, it appears this only applies when you have the correct opinions.

Watch Southern’s take on this disturbing trend below.
