One of the many pitfalls that leftist thought has brought to our society is the concept of “cancel culture” — the idea that a person deserves to lose their job and be outcast from society if any past mistake of theirs is exposed. This terrible way of thinking has brought about one witch hunt after the other. Now, though, cancel culture has gained an unlikely enemy – former President Barack Obama.
In a recent speech, Obama lashed out at cancel culture, arguing that it is not a worthwhile form of activism. Obama then went on to argue that everyone makes mistakes, and that demanding someone’s job over a past mistake is not a virtuous pursuit.
It isn’t often that conservatives find room to agree with Obama, but this case is an exception. Cancel culture does absolutely nothing for our society except give online leftists a reason to pat themselves on the back for getting someone fired. While Obama’s party may have been the party that invented cancel culture in the first place, it’s still refreshing to see him take a stand against it.
