Trump Should Have Just Said NO to This…

When President Donald Trump agreed to an exclusive interview with ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos, he undoubtedly knew that the interview would be full of loaded questions designed to provide ABC with their latest anti-Trump news cycle. When Stephanopoulos asked Trump whether or not he would accept information on a political opponent from a foreign government, though, President Trump probably should have just said no.

Instead, Trump said that he would accept opposition research from a foreign government, and the media firestorm kicked into gear. In the wake of Trump’s answer to this question, Democrats have accused Trump of treason and pointed to his response as evidence that Trump did indeed work with Russia in order to win the 2016 election.

While Trump’s answer to this question is neither treason itself nor evidence that he is guilty of treason, it’s probably not the best response that the President could have given. Trump went on to later clarify his remarks, saying that he would want to see what information a foreign government had before turning it over to law enforcement if necessary. However, the damage was already done.

Those in the mainstream media are going to twist Trump’s words against him no matter what he says, but providing them with free ammunition is not going to help.
