There are many factors that have led to America’s immigration crisis. One of the most influential of these factors, though, is the many incentives that the federal government and state governments intentionally provide to illegal immigrants. Benefits such as welfare, free education, healthcare, and more that are provided to illegal immigrants only serve to encourage more and more people to make the dangerous journey across the border.
Now, the governor of New Jersey is set to make this problem even worse by signing into law a bill that will provide college tuition funding for illegal immigrants living in the state. This funding comes in spite of the fact that New Jersey is expected to suffer from a $600 million budget shortfall in 2019.
So long as we are intentionally providing illegal immigrants with tempting incentives to cross over into the United States, the illegal immigration crisis will never get better. Innocent people will continue to die making the journey, our economy will continue to be strained, and violent criminals will continue to hide among the droves of people who are drawn toward the incentives that the US provides. In the end, removing these incentives is just as important as the border wall when it comes to solving our illegal immigration crisis.
