Trump Stands Firm on Shutdown Threat Over Border Security

One of the final promises that President Trump has yet to fulfill is the building of a wall on the border between the US and Mexico. This promise was one of the main rallying cries for Trump’s 2016 campaign, and also one of the main reasons Trump was elected. Now, almost two years into his Presidency, Donald Trump is determined to make good on this monumental promise – so much so that he’s willing to shut down the government in order to fulfill it.

President Trump has threatened to not sign any budget bill that does not include an adequate amount of funding for the border wall. This puts tons of pressure on Congress, who must choose between delivering Trump a bill that includes funding for the wall or having the government go unfunded.

In his recent meeting with Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, President Trump made the most of this leverage, warning them that funding the border wall would be a requirement in order for them to successfully pass any future budget legislation.

Now, the ball is in Congress’s court, and Trump’s ultimatum is clear – if Congress wants to fund the government, they’re going to have to fund the border wall as well. To learn more about Trump’s strategy to secure funding for the wall, be sure to check out the video below.
