You have to give the Devil his due. The fact is that the Democrats, Hollywood, and the Wingnut Media are good at what they do. They have sold us so many lies over the years that we are up against it just trying to get out from under all the bullhonkery. The saying goes, ‘give ‘em an inch and they’ll take a mile.’ But it would be more accurate to say ‘give ‘em an inch and they’ll give you a pile.’
So we have a problem — an education problem. The essence of this education problem is that we have been sold a narrative that tells us the United States of America is not the most successful experiment in human freedom known to history. We have been convinced that we are more guilty, as a nation, than any other for the common wrongs of human history.
We’ve been told we are history’s most prominent slavers. That is wrong. We’ve been told we are history’s most heinous conquerors. That is false. We are not given credit for being one of the only two cultures on Earth that have actually outlawed slavery and made it totally taboo. Thousands of Americans — most of them white — went to war and died to end slavery.
If you’re a white American you are 3x more likely to be the descendant of someone who died to end slavery than you are to be the descendant of a slave owner. Now, that’s something to be proud of. Just take a moment and let that sink in.
