The #Walkaway Campaign is Growing
The #Walkaway campaign is quickly becoming a powerful movement in American politics. For those who have yet to hear of this movement, the #Walkaway campaign consists of lifelong Democrats who are now abandoning the party, unable continue supporting the thing that it has become. These former liberals often take to social media to explain why they are leaving the left, using the Twitter hashtag “#Walkaway.”
Like most movements that the left doesn’t agree with, many liberal media outlets have claimed that the #Walkaway campaign is nonexistent, saying that the majority of the social media posts stem from the left’s new favorite boogeyman – Russian bots. Of course, the facts suggest otherwise – facts such as the #Walkaway march taking place in Washington, DC.
The reality is that many traditional liberals have been left completely disenfranchised by the new direction of the Democratic Party. These traditional liberals who still remain supporters of individual freedom have been unable to abide with the increasingly totalitarian politics of the left. For many, the only solution has been to walk away from the party they’ve supported their whole lives.
The growth of this movement is no doubt concerning for those on the left who are honest enough to admit that it exists and could be a sign that the “blue wave” that Democrats have been promising very likely may not come to fruition.
