Mexico Ramps up Efforts to Stop Illegal Immigration

When President Donald Trump threatened tariffs against Mexico unless the country helped the United States put a halt to the immigration crisis, critics warned that the move was destined to backfire.

Yet again, however, President Trump has proved that he is indeed the master negotiator that he claims to be. In only a matter of days, Mexico reached an agreement with the US, and began actively working to prevent illegal immigrants from crossing over into the United States. Now, in order to fulfill their promise to President Trump, Mexico is ramping up these efforts even further.

Last month, Mexico deployed about one-third of its national guard forces to the US-Mexico border in order to help prevent Central American migrants from crossing over illegally. Now, Mexico is working to integrate part of its police force into the national guard to further increase security at the border.

The strides that President Trump has made with Mexico mark Trump’s most successful efforts thus far to crack down on illegal immigration. Unhindered by Congressional Democrats, Trump was able to make a deal that costs the United States nothing and earns our country far more effective border security.
