French President Says Really Dumb Things About Trump

French President Emmanuel Macron recently hosted President Donald Trump as he paid a visit to the country. Rather than being a polite and gracious host, Macron chose to use the opportunity to attack Trump instead.

Granted, his attack was veiled rather than direct, as the French President called out nationalism and said that it was a betrayal of a country’s values. It left little room for confusion as to who and what he was talking about, though, since President Trump has proudly admitted multiple times that he is a nationalist.

President Macron said that patriotism and nationalism are direct opposites. This, however, is absurd. Patriotism and nationalism are practically one and the same – and globalist, leftists such as Macron don’t like either one.

It is both expected and essential for a country to put their own interests first, and this is the definition of nationalism. The French and Macron should put the interests of France above all else, Americans and Trump should put the interests of the United States above all else, and all other countries and leaders should do the same. When all countries look after their own people first and foremost, all countries flourish.

Macron’s attack on President Trump and his nationalist policies is, at best, ill-informed about what nationalism is and what it accomplishes. At worst, it’s an attempt to divert the direction that the United States has taken under President Trump and steer the country back toward the more globalist path that we were following under President Obama.
