What else did you expect from the guy who said “hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15”?
Beto O’Rourke knows he’s running a failing presidential campaign. And, quite frankly, so did most of the Democrats standing on the stage for the most recent debate. Let’s be real for a second: they’re running for cabinet positions, and they know it. But, the game is the same — the candidates still need to virtue signal with their base to be considered.
Because he’s basically passable in every conceivable way, Beto has pivoted into a one-issue campaign. He has nothing new to say about taxes, the economy, foreign policy, or any other issue — so, he’s going to be the gun control candidate. We’re not sure how that translates into a VP pick or even a cabinet offer, but it’s an angle that gets him headlines like this. So, from a purely cynical standpoint, we see where he’s coming from.
In the past, Beto has tried to soften his image among moderates by saying “we don’t go door to door” in America. But, one of his answers during the last debate essentially invalidated that position.
