It’s pretty hard to be a Democrat right now — especially if you’re a Democrat running for President of the United States.
Unless your name is Joe Biden or Bernie Sanders, no one really cares about you or what you have to say. That hasn’t stopped the 20+ other Democrats not named Joe Biden or Bernie Sanders from throwing their hats into the ring, but let’s face it — it’s hard to blame some of them for trying.
Remember, it wasn’t long ago when Elizabeth Warren was hailed as the next big thing. The same could be said for Cory Booker or Kamala Harris. Hell, we’ll even give a pass to Beto O’Rourke. Sure, his most shining credential is just losing a Senate race to Ted Cruz, but the mainstream media hyped him up so much that’s it’s almost forgivable that he actually bought into it.
We can’t say the same thing about California’s Rep. Eric Swalwell. Even as the Democrat garners slightly more name recognition from stories about him just not going anywhere, it isn’t helping at all. This leads us to wonder — is this really about winning an election? Or, is this about netting more CNN interviews because you get to put the phrase “former presidential candidate” in your lower third?
The answer really is anyone’s guess, but that doesn’t change the fact that Swalwell is, inadvertently, one of the most entertaining politicians we’ve come across in a long time — and not for flattering reasons. In fact, we could say that he’s the Democratic Party’s answer to Jeb Bush.
Here’s Mark Dice to explain how and why.
