Fake News is a Problem Around the World

Much of Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign focused on a very particular problem – a problem that Trump dubbed “fake news”. Since Trump’s election, this problem has only grown worse, with major media organizations going out of their way to push leftist agendas and cast President Trump in a negative light. However, fake news is not a uniquely American problem.

All over the world, countries are dealing with the issue of media organizations that are biased and interested in pushing their own agendas. In the wake of Donald Trump declaring war on fake news in the United States, though, many world leaders are following suit, joining the President to call out examples of fake news in their own country. Most recently, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro criticized the prevalence of fake news in his own country while meeting with Trump at the White House.

While those on the left criticize Trump for turning world leaders against the media, there’s nothing wrong with leaders taking a stand against a media that no longer has the best interests of the people at heart. Fake news is a problem around the world, but it’s also a problem that is starting to face stiffer and stiffer resistance.
