Why Trump Has Been Harder on Russia Than Obama
As the investigation into Russia continues, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has pointed out several ways that Trump has made additional moves against the Kremlin that the former administration failed to do.
While President Donald Trump fully acknowledges that Russia was involved in the US election, he does not believe that their meddling influenced his final victory nor does he believe anyone in the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians. Be that as it may, he is willing to take action when it comes to sending Russia a clear message about their interference.
Unconcerned about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s opinions, Trump has done a number of things to potentially anger Russians. He’s helped to arm the Ukrainian people, exported energy to eastern energy, and closed several Russian diplomatic properties in the US. And of course, he’s also pushed $700 billion into our nation’s military so we can defend ourselves from any potential threats should the need arise. There were several moves that Obama could have made against the Russians, but Trump is willing to accept the risks that come with his decisions.
The administration continues to make moves to increase cybersecurity when it comes to America’s elections, so this is unlikely to happen again. They’re also planning to increase more public denunciations of the country.
Finally, there has been talk of additional sanctions against the country to further punish Russia for their interference. Though the timeline for implementing these sanctions is unknown, they will further confirm to the Russians that their behavior was unacceptable.
