It isn’t often that Chelsea Clinton speaks out against a member of the Democratic Party. Unlike her mother, though, Chelsea isn’t bound by political aspirations that force her to walk the party line, meaning that she is at least able to speak her mind. After Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar issued a number of anti-semitic remarks – remarks that went entirely unpunished by the Democratic Party – Chelsea Clinton offered a rare rebuke of the Democratic congresswoman.
In a tweet, Chelsea Clinton said, “We should expect all elected officials, regardless of party, and all public figures to not traffic in anti-Semitism”.
It wasn’t long after Chelsea published this tweet, though, before those on the left turned against her. At a vigil for the 50 people who were killed at a New Zealand mosque, Chelsea was publicly harassed by leftist college students who accused her of spreading Islamaphobia by taking a stand against the anti-semitism of Omar. The backlash online was even worse, as those on the left dragged Chelsea through the mud on social media for daring to speak out against one of Congress’s only Muslim representatives.
None of this should come as a surprise, though – nothing riles up those on the left more than when one of their own dares to express a viewpoint that differs from the left’s groupthink agenda.
