Why Conservatives Tend to Believe in God
Contrary to what most liberals will tell you, there is a scientific reason why conservatives tend to be more religious.
In this video from Prager University, Boston College Philosophy Professor Peter Kreefty explains why its beneficial for a variety of reasons to have a spiritual belief system. He explains that in the absence of God, our lives don’t have worth, and everything that was done on Earth throughout our life will be in vain.
Life has an ultimate purpose. Kreefty describes it in the video as an epic adventure similar to the Lord of the Rings. This adventure will have ups and downs and an overarching purpose.
There is ultimate justice. Good will triumph over evil in the end. That means our everyday lives, filled with struggles, are not without a payoff in the end. The good we do will be rewarded.
From a philosophical standpoint, this means our love for others means something. Our emotions and feelings for other people aren’t chemical neurons firing randomly. Instead, our feelings of love are placed inside of us by a creator God who allows us to love others by design.
If you choose to live as if God exists, even if you aren’t sure one way or the other, you have gained everything and lost nothing. Studies have proven that people who are religious are happier, live longer and are more charitable than those who don’t have such belief systems. Therefore, there are many benefits of belief beyond what you might have known or imagined.
