The concept of hate speech is one that is near and dear to the hearts of most far-left liberals. In fact, if the far-left had its way, the First Amendment would be thrown out the window and hate speech would become a criminal offense.
In the United States, however, there is no such thing as hate speech. Under the First Amendment, all speech is protected. There is no such thing as speech that is too “hateful” or offensive to not be protected.
Of course, personal liberty has never been a major concern for the far-left. Those on the left are attempting to use the idea of hate speech to bludgeon their opposition into silence. Unable to handle hearing any views that oppose their own, they would rather sacrifice the freedoms of themselves and their fellow citizens than confront differing ideas and opinions.
One of the major reasons why hate speech doesn’t actually exist, though, is that it is impossible to define. Those on the left tend to define hate speech as anything that offends them – which is a very broad definition considering how easily offended most of them are. A concrete definition for hate speech, though, is nonexistent.
