Was The Church Shooting a Hate Crime Targeting Christians?

On the picturesque Sunday Morning of November 5th, the First Baptist church’s congregation in Sutherland Springs, Texas, experienced a kind of evil that can only be compared to an act by the devil himself.

While worshiping, the congregation was descended upon by a madman who shot and killed 26 churchgoers along with injuring 20 others. The victims ranged in age from one unborn baby all the way up to 77 years-of-age. Some feel learning the motive behind this heinous attack does help the general public cope with such a senseless tragedy and that’s what this video by Paul Joseph Watson aims to accomplish.

Here’s What’s Known About The Shooter:
The shooter had a reputation as a practicing atheist. He also seemed to take great enjoyment in putting Christians down and calling them stupid on various platforms like Facebook.

What This Might Point to as The Motive:
While this in and of itself doesn’t constitute labeling the motive behind the shooting as hate, thus classifying it as a hate crime, the fact that the church shooter seemingly disliked Christians as a group shouldn’t be ignored.

After all, imagine what the media would do if a person who frequently posted on social media about their hate of Islam walked into a Masque and massacred 26 people. Is there any way that crime would not almost immediately be labeled as a hate crime against those who practice Islam? Why then is this shooting being instead labeled as a mystery as far as the motive?

The Personal Motive Narrative Doesn’t Make Complete Sense:
Some media are pointing to the fact that the shooter had a personal connection with a church member through a former spouse as the supposed motive. However, that theory doesn’t hold water.

First of all, the person who was the supposed target wasn’t even in attendance that Sunday. Secondly, why would the shooter seek to kill as many people as possible as it was proven that he did, just to “get back” at someone he was mad at? The narrative doesn’t fit.

There Could be Another More Troubling Motive:
Another possible motive behind this shooting could involve the medication that the shooter was taking. He was on an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) drug, which is a common connection between him and other shooters who have taken the lives of others in a similar matter. This is a potential motive the media is outright ignoring perhaps due to the fact that the pharmaceutical industry is super powerful and admitting the potential danger of these drugs could come with pushback.

The motives behind this shooting still aren’t known and may never be known. However, finding the “why” behind these tragedies are the first step in preventing them from occurring again.
