US Labels Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a Terrorist Group
On April 8, President Donald Trump made a historic announcement declaring that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard would be considered a terrorist group by the United States.
This declaration marks the first time in history that a military branch of another nation has been classified as a terrorist group by the United States. However, it is a classification that has been a long time coming.
For decades, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has both directly and indirectly aided terrorist activity throughout the Middle East. In the wake of the disastrous Iran Nuclear Deal, the Revolutionary Guard was able to continue their terrorist activities without fear of intervention by the United States. Now that President Trump is in the White House and the Iran Nuclear Deal has been abolished, though, these terrorist activities will no longer go unanswered.
Labeling the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist group is a part of Trump’s overarching strategy to increase the pressure on Iran and limit their ability to manufacture chaos and destruction in the Middle East. It’s a classification that has already been praised by the Israeli Foreign Ministry – and one that the left unsurprisingly opposes.
