To understand President Donald Trump, you have to understand that the world was not ready for him. How could it have been? If the world was ready for Trump and the MAGA movement, it would have seen him coming a mile away. If the Democrats had ever seen anything like Donald Trump before the 2016 election, they would never have let him live long enough for him to actually get elected.
It is precisely because they were totally unprepared for him that they didn’t take him seriously. Hillary put up exactly zero effort during the 2016 campaign. They thought that because his rhetorical style seems unrefined on the surface that he would be dumb and ineffectual. By the way, that’s exactly how they feel about the common man and woman. They believe that the ordinary nature of ordinary people necessarily means that they are dumb and ineffectual.
They expect you to be weak, disinterested, and foolish. And that’s how they perceive Trump. Never in a million years could they have been ready for the way trump leads them around by the nose — leveraging all of their worse and most reactionary impulses against them.
And, by the way, that is why low energy shlubs like Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush can’t even stand in the light of a man like Trump. They think they can because they’ve been raised on BS. But when they try, they fail.
