Trump is Back on the Campaign Trail — And He’s STILL a Hit

When was the last time you remember a president seeming like a populist maverick while running for re-election?

Let’s face it — for almost all politicians, most of the passion they can hype up from their supporters manifests the first time they stage a major campaign. Florida Senator Marco Rubio was a Tea Party rebel back in 2010. These days, he doesn’t exactly bring down the house when he returns to his home state.

This was even true with former President Barack Obama, who was presented as an almost messianic figure in 2008. In 2012, he got lucky because Republicans managed to nominate the most lukewarm candidate they could possibly find. That election really was theirs to lose, and they did.

As President Donald Trump hits the campaign trail once again, his rallies appear just as rambunctious as ever. The lines snake around the venues, and many people are often forced to listen to his speech from outside. Still, they seem perfectly happy to do so — because Trump is still the passion candidate going into 2020.

This is a rare gift indeed.
