There are plenty of reasons why Democrats chose to oppose Brett Kavanaugh so violently, from the fact that he was a nominee of a President that they hate to the fact that Democrats are desperate for a victory to show their base. However, all of these reasons pale in comparison to the most influential reason why Democrats hate Brett Kavanaugh – they believed he was a vote against Roe v. Wade (even though he wasn’t).
Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation provides conservatives with a conservative majority on the Supreme Court. Thanks to this majority, the Supreme Court now at least has the potential to challenge Roe vs Wade for the first time since the decision was passed down — even though the chances of this are almost zero. Regardless, this is a nightmare for the left, who place abortion above all other matters.
Abortion is the shrine that the left worships, and a core tenant of their guiding philosophy. It represents a life without consequence and a world where morality is not a guiding factor. To lose it would mean letting go of a worldview that the left has fought so fervently for and being forced to come to grips with the fact that the thing they worked to protect is now considered murder by the highest court in the land. It’s an unacceptable outcome for the left, and one that made them willing to cast all decency aside to oppose Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
