Social Justice Overload? An Honest Review of Captain Marvel
Love them or hate them, superhero movies have become a massive part of our culture in North America. Naturally, whenever someone who isn’t white or male stars in one of them, the leftist media goes above and beyond to make sure it instantly becomes our favorite movie — artistic merit be damned.
We had a chance to see Captain Marvel over the weekend, and we’re going to be honest — it isn’t terrible. Sure, it’s a very far cry from Thor, Iron Man, or even a few DC entries like Wonder Woman (which we were also supposed to fawn over), but it does its job as a superhero film. If you want to go to a theater and unplug you brain for two hours, this movie accomplishes that. Beyond this, however, there really isn’t much to talk about in terms of artistic quality.
But, just like with Black Panther, having a lukewarm opinion like this isn’t enough when the main character is something other than a white male. This is supposed to be a cultural landmark that destroys the patriarchy, capitalism, and Evil Orange Hitler forever. We’re living in dangerous times, and only liberal Hollywood can save us from ourselves.
That last statement might sound a bit hyperbolic, but that really is how Hollywood elites seem to see themselves.
All this said, Captain Marvel isn’t without its share of problems — some of which are obviously rooted in the overt attempt to win over feminists who didn’t care about superheroes or comic books until five minutes ago.
