Republicans More Energized Than Ever Ahead of the Midterms
Democrats went all in to stop Brett Kavanaugh from being confirmed to the Supreme Court, turning the advise and consent process in the Senate into a shameful circus. It turns out, though, that this might have been a grave miscalculation. Not only did their efforts to stop Kavanaugh fail, the battle in the Senate has also energized the Republican base heading into the midterm elections.
Throughout Kavanaugh’s confirmation process, Republicans were given a sobering reminder of the direction Democrats intend to lead our country if given power – a direction where due process is cast aside, where common decency is trampled on in the name of political gain, and obstruction is the primary goal. Any complacency that Republican voters might have had has largely vanished – which is great news for Republican candidates in tight races.
Midterm elections almost always come down to which party is able to energize and motivate their base the most. Out of the gate, Republicans were at an immediate disadvantage given that Republican voters are much more content with the current state of the government than Democratic voters. Now, though, Democrats may have riled up the Republican base at precisely the wrong time according to data such as the latest contribution numbers from the RNC.
