Despite warnings from many high-ranking members of the party, a number of Democrats are still pushing to move forward with impeachment proceedings before special counsel Robert Mueller releases his full report. In a news conference of February 6, Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib announced that she planned to file an impeachment resolution against Trump sometime in the coming weeks.
Moving forward with impeachment proceedings has largely been regarded as a bad move both by Democrats and Republicans alike. Given that the Republican-controlled Senate is never going to convict Trump before all the evidence comes out, moving forward with impeachment now is nothing more than a political stunt.
It’s also a political stunt that may backfire given that most voters are weary of all the obstruction and political games that take place in Washington. With a critical election right around the corner, this certainly seems like an entirely unnecessary risk for the Democratic party to take. When your hatred of President Trump is so blinding, though, mistakes such as this are often overlooked.
