President Trump to Meet with Vladimir Putin
On July 16, President Trump is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland. Unsurprisingly, this meeting is something that is already drawing a lot of criticism from those on the left who call Trump’s decision to meet with Putin a mistake and a risk.
Given that the majority of those on the left believe that Trump colluded with Putin during the 2016 election (despite zero evidence to support this claim), it’s little shock that they would be appalled by the idea of a meeting between the two leaders.
The reality is, though, that Russia and the United States are arguably the two most powerful players on the world stage today and certainly the two most powerful countries when it comes to nuclear capabilities. Rather than ramping up tensions and hostility between the two nations as many on the left including Hillary Clinton have called for, it is crucial for us to maintain a diplomatic relationship with Russia in order to guarantee world peace. This is something that both Trump and Putin no-doubt realize, and something that will be the focus of their high-stakes talks on July 16.
