President Trump Meets with Pastor Freed from Turkey
For two years, American pastor Andrew Brunson was detained inside a Turkish prison for supposed crimes against the state. Last week, though, President Trump succeeded in securing Pastor Brunson’s release. By Saturday, Brunson was back home in the United States at the White House, meeting with President Trump.
In a Tweet, President Trump said, “From a Turkish prison to the White House in 24 hours. That’s not bad.” During his meeting with Pastor Brunson, President Trump thanked him for the sacrifice that he made for his faith, and both the pastor and his wife prayed for President Trump. It was a heartfelt moment and a reminder of the hard work the President is doing to fight for Americans all over the world.
Following Brunson’s release, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo promised that the Trump administration would continue fighting to bring other “wrongfully imprisoned” American citizens back home to the United States. Trump also took time to thank the Turkish President Recep Tayyip for working with him on this issue and reiterated that no ransoms were paid to the Turkish government to secure Brunson’s release.
